A religious sect becomes the prime suspect in a murder spree.
Trivia
- The first X-Files appearance of Nicholas Lea before taking on the role of Alex Krycek.
- The big painting shown a few times on the wall of the discotheque is a copy of a painting by H.R. Giger, the Swiss artist who designed Alien (1979).
- Steveston is a real town located in Richmond, British Columbia and also doubles as Storybrooke, Maine in Once Upon a Time (2011). In fact, the popular Granny's Diner (Cannery Cafe in real life and as seen in this episode) is first spotted behind Mulder and Scully at 9:32.
- First episode to be directed by Rob Bowman. He would go on to direct 33 more episodes in the series and of course was also handed the plum assignment of directing the first feature film, The X Files (1998).
- The X Files has often been compared to the movie The Silence of the Lambs. Brent Hinkley (Brother Andrew) played Officer Murray in the movie.
Goofs
- Male Marty is seen in the left hand corner after female Marty exits the car for the officer.
- When the team is examining the first corpse, the eye twitches (time between 5:15 and 5:25).
- At around 40:00, when Mulder and Scully break into a hotel room, a silhouette can be seen dropping down behind the window. It could be falling equipment or a crew member ducking out of sight.
- A brief scene of Mulder and Sculley driving to Massachusetts shows mountains in the background that clearly are nowhere near New England, but are the mountains of British Columbia.
- There are no nightclubs in Germantown, Maryland.
- If you look carefully around 5:20 into the episode, when Muller is taking samples from the dead guy, you can see the "dead" guy blink.
